Conversations with Self
About:
Medium:
Linoleum print on paper

Date:
2023

Dimensions:
1 ft  x  2 ft

Description: This artwork explores the unseeable tension in a visual way. It shows the artist’s interaction with herself, focusing on self-judgment and self-sabotage during the times of emotional pain. The symmetry of the piece reflects the oneness of the two people. Then, this parallel is disturbed by the eyes of the figures, where no eye contact is made by the two. This reflects the artist’s conversation with herself, where she simultaneously looks and avoids herself due to the self-imposed shame.

Additionally, this piece projects the artist’s aptness for non-verbal ways of communication. Often due to discomfort and pressure, the artist chooses to display her thoughts through her body language, such as avoiding eye contact.

The artist notes this project a two-panel comic, where the audience reads the piece from left to right. The designs were first hand drawn, then converted to SVG files for the laser cutter. Then, these engraving were used to print on paper with ink. There are currently 7 print copies.
