Description:
This project reflects the continuous draining of life and emotions out of the artist’s body caused by the self-imposed pressure to endure discomfort stoically. The act of piercing into the unblemished project reflects her own journey to break the self-made barriers that isolate her from others and her own emotions. It is a visual representation of the internal battle between showing strength and acknowledging pain.
The drawing is impaled with 5 steel rods of unequal lengths. Red yarns come out of the woman’s holes around her neck, depicting parasite-shaped blood. Similarly, the ends of the draped dress sits on a pool of red dye.
All of these violent components directly juxtapose the serenity and composure of the figure.
Meanwhile, the curtain shaped fabrics on the sides creates an illusion of the viewers looking into the womanly figure’s room. The intimacy of the sculpture’s setting is further enhanced by the lit incense, producing musky smoke that fills the entire room.
